Top 10 Interesting Penis Facts

Here are our Top 10 Interesting Penis Facts

Since we paid homage to the vagina, (and in celebration of men’s sexual health month) we thought it would be fun and interesting to learn some facts about the penis and its function (sexual that is).

What is the average penis size?  Circumcised or not? Penis enlargement and more!

Here are some facts you may not know about, as well as busting a few myths.

1. Is Bigger Better?

Okay, the most often asked about question is whether a bigger penis is better than a smaller one.  First, the average penis size is approximately 5”-6” erect and 3 ½“ flaccid.  Statistically, only 15% of men are over 7”, and only 3% are over 8” erect.  The most sensitive and pleasurable spot in a woman’s vagina is 1”-2” inside, so technically a man with a 2” penis can pleasure a woman.  Also note that there is no relationship between the size of a flaccid penis and an erect one.  Increases from flaccid to erect varies and can be anywhere from ¼“ to 3 ½“ in length.  So the guy with the smaller limpy, may have a bigger erection.  By the way, there is no medical way (pill, pump, exercise or cream) to enlarge the penis permanently, except for surgery which has less than 35% success rate and is not approved by medical organizations.

2. Longest Penis in the World

The Longest Penis in the World Award goes to Jonah Falcon of Brooklyn, New York.  With an impression length of 9.5” flaccid and 13.5” erect, Jonah tops the charts.  Unfortunately, he can’t get a girlfriend. So, maybe penis size doesn’t matter? Incidentally, porn star John Holmes had a penis size of 12” when erect.

3. Too Many Erections

Men may get erections up to eleven times (or more) a day and they cannot be controlled by thought, because they are a response of the nervous system.  Almost anything can cause an erection, but it is most often cause by sexual stimuli.  In sleep, men experience an average of nine erections and morning is when most men are more easily aroused. Erectile dysfunction is when a man cannot get or maintain an erection that is satisfactory for intercourse.   It happens for a variety of reasons and for men of all ages, although with older men it is more frequent.  Causes include performance anxiety, overwork, stress, or guilt, high blood pressure, diabetes, smoking, excessive alcohol, obesity, pharmaceutical and recreational drugs, as well as a narrowing of the blood vessels that carry blood into the penis.

4. Sperm Production

Sperm is produced in the male testes and it takes ten weeks for them to mature.  Semen is good for you: it contains Vitamin C, calcium, protein, sodium, amino acids, fructose, enzymes, citric acid and zinc and has about 7 calories per teaspoon. The average amount of semen produced in a single ejaculation is about 1-2 teaspoons, which can contain between 40 million and 600 million sperm.  A healthy man can produce 70-150 million sperm a day, but loses three times that amount when they ejaculate.  A man will ejaculate an average of 7,200 times during his lifetime, which is approximately 14 gallons of semen.  Sperm can live up to five days inside the vagina.  The average speed of ejaculation is 28 miles per hour.

5. Farthest Come Shot

Horst Schultz’ claim to fame is for holding the record for the farthest male ejaculation ever recorded at 18 feet.  Incidentally, Horst also holds the records for the greatest speed of ejaculation (an amazing 42.7mph).  You wouldn’t want to get that in the eye!

6. Autofellatio

According to Wikipedia, “Autofellatio is the act of oral stimulation of one’s own penis as a form of masturbation”.  Some sources say that only one in 400 guys is flexible enough to give themselves a blow job.  No doubt, many more have tried.

7. Broken Penis?

If you are squeamish, don’t read this.  Yes, guys, you can actually “break” your penis, which is called a penile fracture.  The penis, when erect can become very rigid, and is not designed to twist, turn or bend.  A “broken” penis happens more in younger men who tend to have more rigid erections, and while thrusting too hard and fast during sex (watch out for her pelvic bone!), or when their partner grinds wildly on top of them.  When it happens there is an audible “snap”, followed by excruciating pain, and the penis will turn black and blue. Ouch!

8. Circumcised

Only 30% of men worldwide are circumcised, 70% of which are Jewish or Muslim.  In the US, 75% of men are circumcised for non-religious reasons which is the highest proportion compared to other countries.  The World Health Organization recommended circumcision for men to lower their risk of being infected with HIV.  However, many argue that uncircumcised penises have more sensation and pleasure.  These days circumcised men can have their foreskin reconstructed, but the process, which involves moving the skin over the tip and taping it, may take years.

9. Refractory Period

While the average orgasm in men only lasts six seconds, it can take days for men to be able to get another erection. In most men it is only a few minutes to an hour or so.  This is called the refractory period.

10. Male Multiple Orgasms.

The term male multiple orgasms refers to the experience of having several non-ejaculatory orgasms in a row during one session of sex play.  Ejaculation and orgasm in men are two separate physiological and psychological experiences. To explore male multiple orgasm men must learn to control their ejaculation and hold it back, just before the “point of no return” by slowing down the action or stopping altogether.  This technique requires a strong PC muscles, focused breathing, and lots of practice.
